Jeremiah 17:21-22 -- On Learning to Rest from our Burdens

"Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers."
Jeremiah 17:21-22

I like the idea of no burdens on the sabbath.  As with so many other things, I think this commandment is there to help us learn to rest from our burdens, not to burden us further.  The Sabbath helps us to get our heads on straight, take some time to re-evaluate, place spirit over body, practice putting God first in small ways, etc.

Everything God asks us to do is to help us become our best selves.  Today, let's remember to set aside our burdens and take time for God, especially on the Sabbath, but also a good reminder for every day, to take some time to talk to God, burden-fee and willing to do his will.
