"And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee."
1 Kings 3:10-12
This is a good reminder that God wants what is best for us and for everyone, so as we work to make sure we're on the same page with God, we'll get closer as we keep other people in mind and refrain from asking for selfish things. Not to say that it is easy to take a step back and see things from another perspective, but definitely worth practicing to try to see other points of view... especially God's, which he will teach us to glimpse as much as we are able, if we ask him.
Today, let's be thankful for all that God has done for us, and ask God to help us to to be less selfish and better able to help others in whatever position that we are in.
