"Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord."
Psalms 4:5
The sacrifices of righteousness seem like the things that we have to give up in order to be righteous. Depending on where we're at in life, those things can seem huge, but I think that there are always sacrifices to be made, even when they don't loom too large. We still have the opportunity to sacrifice some personal time and dedicate it to God, for instance, which will get us closer to where we need to be... less self-centered, and more God-centered.
I also think that as we become more righteous and make those incremental changes in our lives that the pain of what we have sacrificed in the past will fade and be swallowed up in the joy of the Lord... we'll see that all of it was worth it because we'll have the relationship with and the knowledge of God that we paid those prices for, and having that spirit in our lives will make whatever we have given up in return pale in comparison.
Today, let's look at our lives and make whatever sacrifice is needed to get a little bit closer to God. It might feel painful at first, but as we put our trust in the Lord in that way, it will always be worth it.
