1 John 1:8-9 -- On Confession and Cleansing

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:8-9

I think a lot of the point here is humility... not thinking that we know everything, are perfect, or that we don't need to change and grow. That's a tough things sometimes, because we want to feel competent and in control... it's hard sometimes to admit how much we really need God just to stay relatively sane. :)

Today, let's admit our sins, mistakes, and faults, and pray for help. Let's be humble enough to admit that we aren't perfect, and use that knowledge to also work on relating to other imperfect people. Hiding behind a mask of perfection doesn't help anyone... it just sets up an impossible ideal for observers, stilts all of our interactions, and prevents us from working on and improving ourselves. Let's be real, especially with God, who can cleanse and help us to be better than we are.
