Proverbs 17:5 -- On Calamity and Kindness

"Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished."
Proverbs 17:5

I think the main message here is kindness and compassion. When we treat others as though their feelings and life situations don't matter, then God is displeased. If we've got someone or a group of people that we feel like that about, time to learn more about them and pray for help with learning to love. It doesn't automatically make us horrible if we have faults, but when we do a self inventory and we find that sort of thing, then let's not accept it and choose evil, but instead let's eradicate that kind of thinking and change. Today, let's make sure we aren't mocking other people's misfortune, and that we aren't secretly happy about other people's tragedies. Let's learn to be happy for others and to value ourselves in ways other than by comparison to others.
