Doctrine and Covenants 6:9 -- On Repentance

"Say nothing but repentance unto this generation; keep my commandments, and assist to bring forth my work, according to my commandments, and you shall be blessed."
Doctrine and Covenants 6:9

I've been reading the Old Testament to prepare Sunday School lessons lately, and recently it has been the Israelites wanting to go back to Egypt whenever anything goes wrong, somehow forgetting that it would be an impossibly bad idea. And so God kind of gives them a back to basics program with super detailed instructions on what they can and can't do, reminders of why they need to rely on him, etc. because they forget so easily. ... And I think this is similar. We forget too. We think, oh yeah, I've got this, and try to dive into the deep end and then realize that we're sinking. We need a refresher on how to float. :) ... And I think that is what this verse is. It's letting us know that this part of the gospel is the most important one to hear right now... maybe later, if we really master this part, then we'll ready to move past it... but let's get this part down first, and not try to overreach ourselves. :) Today, let's consider repentence, and just that. Let's pray for forgiveness, and seek that connection with the Lord that we so desperately need in our lives.
