"And it came to pass that Moronihah took possession of the city of Zarahemla again, and caused that the Lamanites who had been taken prisoners should depart out of the land in peace."
Helaman 1:33
Thinking about war today. Here the Lamanites overextend themselves, surrender, and then leave in peace. Although, overall because we know the plot, we know that they come back... maybe not those same men, but the hatred was kept alive over a very long span of time.
Maybe in our lives it is the same... we can't stop the long-term hatred of a whole group of people passing it on to their children. However, with God's help we can surrender our own hatred and leave in peace. We can refuse to teach it to others, and set an example of not passing on bitterness.
It doesn't have to be a physical war ... there are so many mental, emotional, and even spiritual battles that are going on in our lives. Some of them need to be fought, and we can take on the armor of God for those ones... but many don't need to be fought, if we could agree to lay down our bitterness. Today, let's pray to know the difference and work for peace.
