"That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness."
Doctrine and Covenants 136:36
This is the "one lesson" (verse 35) that God says that a lot of us don't learn that we should. To me, this verse basically says that superpowers can't be used for evil.... which if it were fiction would be an awesome plot twist for the good guys, but perhaps also make the story a little boring since the bad guys could never have a real chance of winning. As soon as they tried to do something bad with the awesome power, bzzt, it would fail.
In real life it is more complicated because there are a lot of other rules around it, like belief and faith, and doing what God wants and not what we want, and we don't have the convenience of a plot with a limited number of characters that are clearly good and evil. :) ... The idea remains though, because the power of God will triumph in the end, no matter how long God grants us to live and learn to repent. We're looking forward to a happy ending if we stick with God, and that connection with God that allows miracles in our lives is accessible only through righteousness.
Today, let's learn righteousness. Let's learn how to establish and strengthen our connection with God, and how to trust in God enough that we are able to see and expect and influence the miracles in our own lives, and handle them to bless others lives as well, as God directs.
