"For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life."
Proverbs 6:23
The commandments are there to guide us and light our way... I like the reminder of that here because we often think of commandments as burdens rather than assistance, but they are there to help us and protect us from harming ourselves, like advice from our parents when we are young. Look both ways before you cross the street, etc. That's what God is trying to do for us. He doesn't want to lock us up inside so that we can't learn anything out there in the world, but he does want us to be able to avoid the traps and pitfalls and temptations that are waiting.
Today, let's remember that the commandments are there to help us, and that God's law is there to light our way. Let's listen to God when he counsels and warns us, and especially when he reproves us, and straighten our path and adjust our intentions so that we can once again walk in the way that God advises. No other is safe for us, and choosing to walk without God is the most dangerous of all.
