"For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother."
Mark 3:35
This is an interesting passage, with this verse being the point I think ... that being united in the gospel is becoming God's family. I think that is a huge, joyful, blessing especially for people who might have strained family relationships in this life.
I don't think that it means that family isn't important outside the gospel, or that we have to choose between the two. There are cases where breaking ties might be necessary, but typically our families can be huge blessings and often are a source of great joy, and of great learning as we work on those relationships that are less ephemeral than other types seem to be.
Still, the idea of being children of God, of being part of Christ's family, that's something far more valuable than any other relationship, and (as we learn from Lehi's dream), God's love is the goal, and surpasses everything else. Today, let's learn more of God and what it means to be his family. As we do, we will tap into the deepest type of joy and love that it is possible to experience.
