"Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;"
1 Peter 2:11
The idea of warring againt the soul is kind of scary, along with the idea that we could allow the flesh to win over the spirit by making unwise choices. That seems so opposite of God's hopes for us in this life, where our spirits were granted the opportunity to acquire a body. Allowing ourselves to slip the other way is almost like one of those werewolf stories where the person forgets themselves and goes all wolf... all instinct, no rationality.
Bodies are such amazing gifts from God, and the potential source of much joy, but our Spirits are the core of who we are. Let's not lose ourselves by letting our flesh rule us, losing God and ourselves in the process.
