Jacob 6:11 -- On Repentance

"O then, my beloved brethren, repent ye, and enter in at the strait gate, and continue in the way which is narrow, until ye shall obtain eternal life."
Jacob 6:11

The scriptures emphasize repentance, coming back to it over and over again, reminding us that we need to be sorry for our past actions, do what we can to make up for them, and change into people who wouldn't do it again. It's hard to repent when we just have an intellectual knowledge that we shouldn't do something, but still have that desire. Even then, though, God can help us change our hearts if we are willing, and eventually we can become people who have no more disposition to do evil, but sincerely desire to do good continually.

Today, let's sincerely examine our choices and go farther than just apologizing for our mistakes. Let's take steps to change, and let God in to help us become new people, with broken hearts and contrite spirits, desiring only to be better than we are, rather than to get around the rules or indulge in something that harms our spiritual health.
