"And it came to pass that Nephi had become weary because of their iniquity; and he yielded up the judgment-seat, and took it upon him to preach the word of God all the remainder of his days, and his brother Lehi also, all the remainder of his days;"
Helaman 5:4
This struck me today because the idea of retiring to go on a mission sounds like a lot of work. And yet Nephi was weary of being a judge and seeing iniquity and corruption, and preaching the word was better to him than that. I think it is sometimes hard to see why something like that would be an improvement for someone, trading one kind of difficult work for another, but I think it is because God's rewards are better than anything that we get through normal employment, and also just the idea of helping people and being able to be a part of bringing them joy... there isn't anything better than that, as proven by God, who makes us his work. :)
Today, let's step back and think about what we want to spend our effort on, remembering well that the Lord's yoke is easy and his burden light. Let's learn to think of the gospel as a source of joy and remember that the Lord will help us with everything good that we choose to work on. Let's be like Nephi and find ways to improve things and reduce the iniquity that we see in the world, by furthering the Lord's work.
