1 Corinthians 8:1-3 -- On Knowledge and Love

"Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him."
1 Corinthians 8:1-3

The difference between knowledge and love is interesting here. Knowledge often makes us feel extra competent, but no matter how impressive our knowledge in whatever area, it doesn't come close to touching what God knows. Therefore, our knowledge shouldn't be a source of pride, but rather gratefulness and humility, as we use the knowledge that God has granted us for good, but remain open and teachable, realizing that we are not experts, but rather students, always with a lot more to learn.

Interestingly, love/charity here is a source of edification, and something that helps us connect to God, making it the more important virtue. Today, let's work on loving God and the people around us. I suspect that we will learn much more through that quest than we ever could seeking knowledge alone.
