"Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able."
Luke 13:23-24
This is a good reminder that it isn't enough to go through the motions, or just to passively believe. Both are okay when we are starting out and learning about the gospel. Belief and taking actions that will teach us the way, like going to church or reading our scriptures, those are great places to start. However, just like an initial meeting does not equal a lifelong friendship, we have to follow through on that beginning and really get to know God and what he is about. As we learn and grow in the gospel and become familiar with God and his ways, we will learn to recognize and live by the Spirit and by God's Words in all things, we'll start changing our lives for the better and become better people.
Let's follow Christ's advice here and strive to enter in at the strait gate, and remember that even after baptism and committment through that covenant with God, we need to keep going and not stop or turn around or walk backwards, but go forth with faith and develop that relationship with God, learn to do good always, and God will help guide our way.
