"And again, blessed are all they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."
3 Nephi 12:4
It's interesting to say that people who mourn are blessed. The idea of sorrow turning into joy and mourning into comfort doesn't seem to be about preventing the emotion in the first place, but rather the idea that experiencing sorrow is a blessed thing, or in other words, learning is good. If we understand sorrow, perhaps that helps us to more fully understand and experience joy and comfort, which is like all of life. We're here to learn by the things that we experience, and we have to learn to choose good over evil. I don't think that we can do that without going through at least some sorrowful times... but that's just a small part of eternity, which maybe is part of the lesson. Learning to trust in God and his promises and know that better is coming, even when the day doesn't seem particularly hopeful.
