"And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
Acts 4:18-20
I like this response from Peter and John, not getting angry or even saying no, but rather asking them to judge whether it's better to follow God, and that they can only speak the truth. I don't think that it is the sort of response that I would think of in the moment... but maybe that's part of the point. This is a response that was likely prompted by the Spirit, because we can rely on God to help us do good, and there are so many more options open to us than the simpler this-or-that options that we give ourselves, often imagining there is no way out. God always has more alternatives for us. and a better way, if we're willing to listen and follow his counsel.
