"But verily I say unto you, that it is not needful for this whole company of mine elders to be moving swiftly upon the waters, whilst the inhabitants on either side are perishing in unbelief."
Doctrine and Covenants 61:3
This is an interesting idea... that even when we're headed for a particular destination, we should pay attention to the journey and the people we encounter. I think that often we get wrapped up in goals and targets and we don't take thought for the in-between part between now and then, thinking that it is a waste of time, or wishing we could just teleport directly to that far off goal... but life is those in-between parts in large part, and much of what God has in store for us is built into those (seemingly) chance encounters... specifically opportunities to share the gospel, but I think a lot of other things as well. Just opportunities to help, or to set an example, or to lift someone up.
Today, let's take advantage of the in-between times in our lives, and be fully present and ready to act on the opportunities that God sends our way, rather than missing them because we are so focused on a different destination. Not that we should allow the cares of the world to distract us from God, but if we work with the Spirit, God will be able to help us know the good distractions from the bad. :)
