"And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do."
Acts 9:3-6
Saul/Paul really impresses me here. There are some dramatic conversions in the scriptures, but there are also some dramatic moments and events that don't result in conversion, or which just don't stick with the people that experienced them. Saul takes it deadly seriously from the beginning and when he realizes that he is in the wrong, he instantly wants to know how to make it right... no excuses, no justifications... just what can I do? And when he finds out, later, he does it.
I think we all have times in our lives when we realize that we're in the wrong and we backpedal, but sometimes try to cover it up or laugh it off or pretend like it didn't happen... but Paul turns immediately around and starts healing what he harmed. He preaches Jesus as Christ even more fervently than he persecuted his followers previously, and he does all he can for the Lord once he realizes that's who he is.
Today, let's try to be as diligent and honest when we realize/God reveals to us our own mistakes.
