"And it came to pass that they did break forth, all as one, in singing, and praising their God for the great thing which he had done for them, in preserving them from falling into the hands of their enemies.
Yea, they did cry: Hosanna to the Most High God. And they did cry: Blessed be the name of the Lord God Almighty, the Most High God.
And their hearts were swollen with joy, unto the gushing out of many tears, because of the great goodness of God in delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; and they knew it was because of their repentance and their humility that they had been delivered from an everlasting destruction."
3 Nephi 4:31-33
This is where I am in my personal reading, and these verses are the culmination of an incredibly immense effort of their whole society to stand up to and survive what we might call "the mafia" ... basically a "secret society that had taken over so much of their country that they had to gather together and shore themselves up with supplies for 7 years to resist them. Imagine moving across country to a walled city just so you didn't get killed or kidnapped into a group like that. And this is them at the end of that whole ordeal. It can seem sort of amusing that an entire people are singing and crying in the streets... but this was that big. God taught them how to survive and preserved them because they repented and humbled themselves enough to listen.
I'm thinking perhaps we should do the same... pray, repent, and humble ourselves enough to listen to what the Lord is asking us to do. Let's follow the prophet (as they did) and refuse to become evil even in the midst of a world where evil runs rampant and often unchecked.
