John 7:16-18 -- On Being Centered on God

"Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him."
John 7:16-18

This seems to be at the core of the gospel, and something that is difficult, but essential, to learn. Christ wasn't self-centered, but God-centered. And God asks us to be the same... to put God and others first, not neglecting ourselves, but remembering that we need God and others, and that God knows how to build a better world and a perfect community and we do not. Being humble and patient and learning from God rather than just assuming we know it all ourselves is a tough thing sometimes, but learning to serve and love others is worth it, and its own reward in a lot of ways. :) Today, let's follow Christ's advice, doing God's will, and seeking the glory of God, whose plan for all of us is worth every effort.
