3 Nephi 12:4 -- On Mourning and Comfort

"And again, blessed are all they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."
3 Nephi 12:4

This is part of a much larger sermon, and the whole thing is amazing. I just wanted to pull this one out of context a little bit because I guess I've never really understood it. I wonder if it is saying something like "It is good to suffer because you also learn relief." If so, it might fit in with the whole Garden of Eden idea of partaking of the tree of knowledge and also triggering death, because knowledge and death were essential to learning happiness and finding eternal life. Seems like a deep philosophy... very cool, but probably not all that comforting when we are actually in the midst of suffering. Perhaps a more immediate lesson is that pain is temporary, and happy endings will come. That's a comfort for all of us, if we can have faith in it. Joy cometh in the morning, and God's promises WILL be fulfilled, no matter what it seems like in the moment. Today, let's "Think Celestial" and focus on long-term thinking, not failing to be present in our relationships and interactions, but still planning ahead and making decisions that will benefit us over time, not trigger consequences that we will come to regret. Let's live as though we were the awesome eternal beings that we are still becoming. :)
