Alma 4:8 -- On Slippage

"For they saw and beheld with great sorrow that the people of the church began to be lifted up in the pride of their eyes, and to set their hearts upon riches and upon the vain things of the world, that they began to be scornful, one towards another, and they began to persecute those that did not believe according to their own will and pleasure."
Alma 4:8

This verse is scary because I think it is easy to slip from being gung-ho and dedicated to just treading water, and then to not really wanting to put forth the effort, etc. Sometimes we are all there, on the same page with God, and then other days we're frantically searching the index for the right topic. And while it is scary in ourselves, it is sometimes so much more scary in people we love, because we can't read their minds or hearts and we don't know when or if they will come back, and even when we can't always see why it is best for us, we know it is best for them. :)

Today, let's renew our committment to God. Let's remember why we came, and all the things that God has done, for the earth and the people who came before us, but also specific ways that he has blessed us individually. Let's remember the danger of pride, and avoid scorn and persecution. Let's read, and pray, and remember... and keep God at the center of our lives so that we don't slip away.
