"And they did humble themselves even in the depths of humility; and they did cry mightily to God; yea, even all the day long did they cry unto their God that he would deliver them out of their afflictions.
And now the Lord was slow to hear their cry because of their iniquities; nevertheless the Lord did hear their cries, and began to soften the hearts of the Lamanites that they began to ease their burdens; yet the Lord did not see fit to deliver them out of bondage.
And it came to pass that they began to prosper by degrees in the land, and began to raise grain more abundantly, and flocks, and herds, that they did not suffer with hunger."
Mosiah 21:14-16
Sometimes the Lord is slow to hear our cries because we aren't exactly sincere yet, and we've cried wolf too many times before... listened to God but then done the opposite. But if we persist, and humble ourselves, he will always hear us and help us. We have to be sincere and want to change our hearts and our minds, and with God's help change ourselves into better, stronger, happier people. Still us, of course, but a version that doesn't lie and betray and cause pain to others anymore.
If we can't hear God in this moment, let's focus and persist and humble ourselves. Let's show him that we're serious and we're not giving up--that we want to change, that we know that we need his help. And he will help us. It might be gradual, rather than instantaneous, but the more we feel the spirit, the more we know that a day with prayer is better than a day without it... the more we read and learn of his life and his love for us, the more that we can feel Christ's saving grace, and have God's strangth to help us overcome our problems and our weaknesses. Today, let's turn from the world and cry to God.
