"For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins."
Proverbs 5:21-22
This reminds me of Scrooge's partner Marley, who was held by the chains of his greed in the afterlife, and came back to warn Scrooge. Fictional, of course, but perhaps a good symbolic representation of this real idea... that it is our sins that trap us and hold us back. We often get it wrong and think that God is holding us back, but the reality is that God is offering us everything, and we hold ourselves back from infinite potential and possibility with our obsessions, fears, and sins. What we should fear is anything that gets in the way of being able to connect with God and through his Spirit, being able to see the possibilities all around us.
Today, let's tune in to God, and break down the walls, and cords, that are holding us back.
