"Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."
Psalms 45:7
The reference to oil here seems to be symbolic of a blessing, indicating that the gladness / joy is a gift from God. And I'm guessing, since we are supposed to liken all scriptures to ourselves, that the recipe works for us too. If we love righteousness and hate/avoid wickedness, we will also be blessed with additional measures of happiness.
Recognizing what righteousness means is part of the blessing of having scriptures, so that we can study the commandments and the example of God, and try to walk, and believe, in his way. Today, let's study, and pray, and learn, so that we can learn how to gain and live with more gladness.
