"Now it came to pass that there was a day set apart by the unbelievers, that all those who believed in those traditions should be put to death except the sign should come to pass, which had been given by Samuel the prophet."
3 Nephi 1:9
Earlier in the chapter the believers were rejoicing at all the miracles, and the unbelievers "rejoiced" when someone said that the time was past for this one prophecy--deriving joy from thinking that the believers joy and faith were vain. Although I would like to say that I don't understand why they would do that, maybe I do. Maybe we're all jealous and we want to be right, and we want to see other people fail and ourselves triumph.
I hope though, that that is just a small part of who we are... that jealousy and disrespect/disregard for others. Hopefully we also have some love for other people, and a desire to help each other. Hopefully there is also part of us that rejoices when others succeed, and wishes them well, and has the power to excel without stepping on anyone else.
Today, let's try to tap into our better natures and not wish death and failure on each other. Let's listen to the Spirit, and talk to the Lord and ask for his help in letting the good inside of us overcome the bad. Let's do our best to be happy for others, even if we disagree, and to look for the best in the world and in each other.
