"The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet."
John 4:17-19
This is an interesting exchange... when Jesus tells her about her life, instead of getting defensive and assuming that someone has been gossiping too much, this woman recognizes Jesus' knowledge of her life and that the knowledge came from God. I think that, in itself, is amazing. :) ... It is hard to get some perspective about our lives, and be able to see from another person's point of view. This woman was strong enough to avoid taking Jesus' comments as a criticism or an attack, and was able to accept the truth and recognize the Christ. I wonder sometimes if I would be able to do the same... we often walk through this life with blinders of self-centeredness on, not seeing the effect that we have on others, and not really caring enough to take the blinders off. In order to get past that, we have to learn to see things from other people's perspective... to put ourselves in their shoes, and think about what effect our words and actions will have on the people around us. That way we can avoid harming others, while still attempting to accomplish our own goals. Let's try to be more other-centered today, and recognize God's influence in our lives, through other people.
