Alma 40:23-26 -- On Resurrection and Eternity

"The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.
And now, my son, this is the restoration of which has been spoken by the mouths of the prophets—
And then shall the righteous shine forth in the kingdom of God.
But behold, an awful death cometh upon the wicked; for they die as to things pertaining to things of righteousness; for they are unclean, and no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of God; but they are cast out, and consigned to partake of the fruits of their labors or their works, which have been evil; and they drink the dregs of a bitter cup."
Alma 40:23-26

The resurrection seems to be the ultimate dream... perfect bodies that never grow old or get sick. Eternal life so you can read all the books and never worry about breaking your glasses, and learn piano and ice sculpture... and whatever else eternity has in store. The "restoration" part is kind of scary though. Being restored to what we are now rather than some ideal that we have never been... that's a little more scary. Maybe today let's think about whether who we are is our ultimate dream, and who we want to be for eternity, and then if we aren't who we want to be, let's take a single step in a better direction. Those steps will add up, if we keep at it... and God can and will help if we ask. He wants us to like ourselves too, and he can help us get there.
