"And thus being prepared to meet the Lamanites, they did not prosper against us. But the word of the Lord was verified, which he spake unto our fathers, saying that: Inasmuch as ye will keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land."

I like the idea here that the Nephites were preserved physically, in a war, because they kept the commandments of God. We run up against a lot of challenges in our lives, with various and often complicated causes, some of which don't seem solvable... but as in this war, there was still something that they could do to prepare themselves beyond physical preparations.
Today, let's take a lesson from the scriptures and attempt the same solution for anything we run up against. We can "try the virtue of the word of God" (Alma 31:5). If keeping the commandments will help us to prosper, then it could apply not only in war, but to anything that is impeding our progress. And even if the solution is a bit more complex, obedience to God is a good first step anyway, because it invites the Spirit into our lives, and helps us prepare to petition the Lord to intervene and help us further.
