Mosiah 5:2 -- On Believing and Following Up

"And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually."
Mosiah 5:2

I really like this verse talking about the "mighty change" in their hearts that has them wanting to do good, and let go of evil. I think this is a common feeling when we hear truth and connect to it, and we get a glimpse of God's plan and how we fit into it. :) After this, the people go on to make a covenant with God that they will keep his commandments... and I think that is part of what this verse is about too. The awesome feeling isn't enough on its own. We have to make sure that change of heart stays with us, and that we incorporate that into who we are, and ask ourselves always, as in Alma 5:26 "if [we] have experienced a change of heart, and if [we] have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can [we] feel so now?"

Today, let's not just read the scriptures and feel briefly enlightened and changed, but let's make sure we keep that light in our lives and make that commitment to God to stick with him... to join his cause, to do his will, and to live in a way that we can retain his Spirit in our lives always.
