Mormon 4:11 -- On Desensitization and Hardening Hearts

"And it is impossible for the tongue to describe, or for man to write a perfect description of the horrible scene of the blood and carnage which was among the people, both of the Nephites and of the Lamanites; and every heart was hardened, so that they delighted in the shedding of blood continually."
Mormon 4:11

I think we desensitize ourselves to violence and other negative things just by living in this society and watching almost any media source... and perhaps some desensitization is appropriate and necessary for us to distance ourselves from being constantly horrified by modern society. On the other hand, desensitization can lead to hardened hearts, and so we have to work extra hard, as I'm sure Mormon and Moroni did, to feel the spirit, to let go of the things of the world, and to stay close to God.

Today, let's work with God and pray to know how to stay sensitive to the Holy Ghost, so that we don't become like these people, where "every heart was hardened" and seal ourselves off from the spirit, and from hope.
