"And now because of their unbelief they could not understand the word of God; and their hearts were hardened."
Mosiah 26:3
The relationship between unbelief and understanding is interesting here. Perhaps that is why we are asked elsewhere in the scriptures to try the experiment, even if we can only desire to believe... because that is the tiny bit of faith that God needs in order to work a miracle in our lives.
Today, let's believe and hope enough that we can get down on our knees and talk to God. If we can get that far, God will help us take it from there. As we draw closer to him, he will be able to teach us more, and help us understand more, so that we can open, and change, our hearts. He lifts us from what we are to what we hope to become.
