Galatians 5:16-17 -- On Walking In the Spirit

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."
Galatians 5:16-17

This goes along with the idea that the "natural man," or in other words our physical bodies, are enemies to God. Those desires and our spiritual desires are very often in conflict, and so we have to make sure that our Spirits, or the "selves" that existed before this earth life, are the priority, and we don't become just slaves to our physical desires.

This doesn't mean that our physical selves have to be unhappy for eternity though... only that we have to find righteous ways to fulful our physical needs/desires, or tutor ourselves to want something better. God didn't give us bodies just to starve them out, but as part of his plan of happiness. If we look to God for help, and make sure we are putting his will first, he will help us tame and satisfy our physical needs in righteous and happy ways... the different parts of ourselves have to be on the same page and working towards the same goals, but as we do, God helps us to find a cooperative way to move forward rather than being at odds, until we eventually are "one" in ourselves, just as we work to become united with others and with God in similar ways, working together for a common goal rather than fighting each other.

Today, let's walk in the Spirit, and ask God to help us put his will first, and also how to find unity in ourselves and with others.
