Acts 8:18-22 -- On Money and Power

"And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee."
Acts 8:18-22

I like that Simon does repent after this, and that he doesn't just keep trying, and insist that everything has a price. :) It's a good reminder for us as well, that no matter how big a part money plays in modern society, the true reality of God's creations isn't about that. Lack of money can't stop God's purposes, overall OR in our individual lives. God is with us and he will provide a way for us to do the things that he asks us to do. In a world with so much rampant corruption, it is nice to see that true power cannot be bought, but instead can only be used for good, according to God's will.
