"And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
And all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel"
Acts 6:10-15
This seems so crazy to me. They couldn't resist his wisdom or the spirit of God... so basically they already knew they were wrong, but they still persisted, paying people to tell lies about him. And then they found out that you can't do an end run around God, because he knows exactly what you are doing.
Today, let's remember that God knows what is going on, and when we run up against something where we differ with God, let's defer to his wisdom and work on ourselves to learn to accept the truth rather than doubling down on even bigger mistakes and deceptions. Let's try for a tiny amount of trust in God. Enough to pray and talk to him. If we're willing to go just that far, he will meet us, and help us learn and trust further.
