"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
Romans 6:4
I like the idea of baptism here... that it is like a rebirth. That is the traditional symbolism behind it, but I think it hit me a little harder today reading about it from the perspective of Christ's recent death in the New Testament... that we join in that death because of sin, but also in his triumph over it. And as Christ can walk in "newness of life" he gives us also this possibility... of starting fresh and letting go of our old selves, becoming new creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17) through Christ. Today, let's think about what that means... having a new spiritual start... and whether we are being baptized today, or have been for a while, let's be new, letting go of sin and starting fresh with God to help us become vastly better than we have been, step by step, with help along the way.
