Ecclesiastes 4:6 -- On Vexation of Spirit

"Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit."
Ecclesiastes 4:6

This sort of reminds me of the Mary-Martha conversation that Christ had in the New Testament, where Martha was really busy working to help everyone, but Mary was sitting and listening to Christ. Martha wanted help, but Christ inferred that Mary had made a good choice, and it wouldn't be taken from her.

The Lord loves effort, but he also provides us, and himself after the creation, with a day of rest. It's hard to strike the right balance between lazy and way too stressed out, but perhaps today we should think about it from both sides. What can we do for the Lord, and also how can we find peace and return our spiritual center, which is Christ?

Let's take the time to find enough quiet and calmness to listen to the Spirit before we launch into the next way-too-busy thing. It's the holiday season... there is a lot to do, but also let's remember what this is all for, and take time to connect with people and with God.
