Alma 36:27 -- On Trust and Deliverance

"And I have been supported under trials and troubles of every kind, yea, and in all manner of afflictions; yea, God has delivered me from prison, and from bonds, and from death; yea, and I do put my trust in him, and he will still deliver me."
Alma 36:27

This is some advice given by Alma to his son Helaman. It's a good way to look at it for us as well... advice from our father, God, to us. Often as children we have a hard time believing in what we are taught, and if we try something and fail, we just give up.

With this advice, as with most, it takes practice and faith to learn to walk the suggested path and trust in God's advice. It isn't always going to work at first, because we're going to get it wrong. It can be good to remember that most of the prophets didn't get it right the first time either, and had to keep trying or keep seeking. Asking isn't enough... we have to really delve into it and try to work it out, learning from God as we go.

Like so many things in life that are worthwhile, God's advice works... it just takes a while to learn. Today, let's put in the time and stick with it even when we fail at first. The more we practice trusting and relying on God, the better we will get at it, and the more God will be able to reach into our lives and help us feel hope and find the solutions to our problems.
