"And he cried again unto the Lord saying: O Lord, behold I have done even as thou hast commanded me; and I have prepared the vessels for my people, and behold there is no light in them. Behold, O Lord, wilt thou suffer that we shall cross this great water in darkness?
And the Lord said unto the brother of Jared: What will ye that I should do that ye may have light in your vessels? For behold, ye cannot have awindows, for they will be dashed in pieces; neither shall ye take fire with you, for ye shall not go by the light of fire."
Ether 2:22-23
Here, the Brother of Jared and God ask each other some questions. The questions are interesting. The Brother of Jared is worried that the Lord is going to ask them to spend a long time in darkness, and God is asking a question to get the Brother of Jared to come up with a plan.
Our questions and the questions that we ask the Lord are similarly interesting because I think they also often reflect our fears and God, trying to get us to think our way through a problem. Perhaps we could carefully craft a few questions that we really want answers to, and really listen to what God asks us through prayer, or scripture reading, or even just the same question here: "What will ye that I should do?" ... Do we know that, when we are talking to the Lord? Do we know what we want, and do we understand the limitations around what we *can't* ask, as God helped with here? Sometimes the Lord presents limitations that have us disappointed or scrambling for a new plan, but he is always listening for what our new plan is... how we think that we can solve the problem in front of us.
Today, let's work with God work as the Brother of Jared did. Conference this weekend might be a perfect time for the Lord to point out some questions to us, so let's have ours for the Lord ready before then, and listen for his answers. :)
