Amos 5:18-20 -- On the Day of the Lord

"Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.
As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?"
Amos 5:18-20

This was interesting to read today, because I think a lot of people look for the reappearance of the Lord as a day of justice and of making things right, finally... but the Lord reminds us here that it isn't necessarily going to be what we expect... that if we are looking for judgement between a lion and a bear, we're still not likely to survive.

Instead, the Lord urges us to "seek good and not evil, that ye may live" (Amos 5:14). Today, let's work on finding the good and building it up rather than giving up and wishing for the destruction of everything and the final judgement. :) Let's work on saving and lifting who and what we can now, rather than worrying about when the Lord will come and finish it all. :)
