Daniel 7:15 -- On Spiritual Paths

"I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me."
Daniel 7:15

Daniel's dream here is troubling, and eventually triumphant, but what struck me about it today is the wording here with Daniel reminding us that our spirits are in the midst of our bodies. Maybe we forget that sometimes, and stop thinking about how we can please God and more about how we can please ourselves.

It isn't a bad thing to learn about ourselves and to express our opinions or determine our preferences, but if we forget, and put ourselves and our physical desires first, then often we lose track of our spiritual selves, smothering that part of ourselves under the physical desires that we allow to scream louder and louder, drowning our our ability to hear the still, small voice of the spirit.

Today, let's take our reminder from Daniel, and remember our spirits, and God's Spirit, and make sure that God is our top priority, and that we are listening to our spiritual selves and that connection with God over our more earthly and temporary desires. ... Not that we should lock those things away and treat our bodies as starveling slaves. We should take good care of them and satisfy our physical needs in appropriate ways... but the body is the temple of the spirit, not the other way around. If we let the flesh drive, we're not going to be traveling God's path.
