Proverbs 20:17 -- On Avoiding Gravel-Mouth

"Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel."
Proverbs 20:17

We blame God for it a lot, but when we meet the consequences of our actions, the truth of it is that God tried to turn us aside and help us avoid the taste of gravel mouth (and worse). He's all about helping us, lifting us, and saving us, even from ourselves, but we have to be willing to work with him, and to gather to him.

So often we refuse God's offer, thinking that we know better or that we can stand on our own, not realizing that we're toddlers before God, throwing the equivalent of pointless temper tantrums because we want so many things that we can't have or even understand yet.

Today, let's avoid gravel-mouth and worse consequences by listening to and trusting God, who helps us to avoid negative consequences where he can, and weather them where we need to learn.  He truly loves us, and trusting him will save us a lot of pain (and bad taste). :)
