Alma 13:13 -- On Entering Into God's Rest

"And now, my brethren, I would that ye should humble yourselves before God, and bring forth fruit meet for repentance, that ye may also enter into that rest."
Alma 13:13

This chapter is talking about people in the scriptures and how they obtained God's rest, and here Alma calls us to repentance and asks us to do as they did, so that we can also enter.

Doesn't rest sound awesome?  I think of God's rest as way better than sleep or a day off, but really a time/place where there aren't any anxieties anymore.  Nothing that you have to worry about or stress over.  Just time to focus on good things.  I could be way off of course, but if it's God's rest, you know it has to be pure good. :)

A lot of times I think that we look at calls to repentance as guilt-trips or a form of dislike and condemnation.  And perhaps, from people, that is an unfortunate aspect of condemnation or judgement.  But when God asks us to repent, it isn't about making us feel bad, and it isn't about hatred or intolerance.  It's because he sees that we're on a road that doesn't lead to happiness and he wants to save us, and get us back on the right road--the one that leads to him.

Today, let's do as Alma (and God) suggest, and repent so that we can enter into the rest of the Lord.
