1 Timothy 6:17-19

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life."
1 Timothy 6:17-19

Yesterday we talked about gain versus godliness, and this seems similar... worldly riches are uncertain, but God gives all things to us, which are the riches we should be looking for.  Richness in good works is better, richness-wise, than a zillion dollars.  And we go on to the real point... eternal life.  Everything we do leads us there... and really, what kind of worldly riches could we possibly get that would make up for not getting eternal life?  No amount of money... no cool secret buried treasure... no amazing Grand Prize... *nothing* could possibly make up for that.  Our true riches come as the result of giving to others, communicating, and building community... caring about people and doing good.  And I'm definitely not saying that managing our finances doesn't matter.  It is good to get out of debt, to take care of our families, etc.  But money isn't the main goal.  Eternal life is.  It is easy to get sidetracked, especially living here in this world where it sometimes seems like the most important thing.  Today, let's work on heading towards Eternal Life... the real goal, that no amount of money could ever buy.
