Ezekiel 20:18

"But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgements, nor defile yourselves with their idols."
Ezekiel 20:18

I think this is interesting as it relates to individual responsibility.  We can't dismiss our attitudes and actions by saying that we grew up that way, or blame our faults on our parents... or on society for that matter.  No matter who we are, or how long the battle, we can free ourselves of the shackles of incorrect and unfortunate influence in our lives, and are free to choose to be good or bad according as we will.  So, God says here... don't follow people who were doing the wrong thing.  Stand up and choose for yourself.  The truth and power of God is available to us all, if we search for the evidence.  Taking someone else's word for it... pro OR con... isn't enough.  To survive the buffetings of our lives, we *must* know, and act, for ourselves.  It takes effort to find your own way and opinion... but the effort must be exerted, and the vulnerability endured, if we are to have a chance at becoming who we can be.  Today, let's think for ourselves... talk to God, find out if he is there.  Take the chance. :)
