John 5:39

"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."
John 5:39

Short and sweet this morning. :)  Search the scriptures.  So many times in our lives we think that so many things could be solved if God would just speak to us, tell us what we need to do... tell us what he wants, what he expects of us personally.  He talked to the Brother of Jared for three hours, why not us for just 10 seconds, right?  But that isn't the way that he works.  Although, I *guarantee* he'll give you ten seconds if you get down on your knees and ask for it.  The trick is carrying that 10 seconds of amazing love and clarity, and applying it to the rest of our lives.
God does tell us what he expects of us, what he wants us to do every day... right there in those pages.  knowing them well can teach us about ourselves, about the world we live in, about other people, and a lot about God.  We can get to know him... we can learn about how to gain eternal life... topics that are more important than anything we are learning at school, or on the job.  It is scary that we think that we already know the answers to these questions... that we can be so content with being in kindergarten, and not wanting to move on to some higher level of knowledge.  I think it sometimes... think that I have read the book of Mormon, I know it... why should I read it over again?  but it is like Shakespeare (better I’m sure)... there are layers and depths of meaning in there... and in all the rest of the scriptures too... I mean, faith for instance.  who can tell me that they know all there is to know about faith, and the power that it has in people's lives?  no-one can.  we read stories and watch things on the news about people recovering from cancer because they believed... but we don't even know what God has to say about it.  Plus... the scriptures are absolutely fascinating.  There is so much in there... cool, interesting stuff... and it is all about us.  About the power that we have individually to change the world, to lift other people, to make things better... even when they are horrible.  About standing up for what you believe, no matter what.  About finding who you are, and who God is... about listening to the truth instead of listening to lies... about learning to love, about kindness... about what to do when everything goes wrong.  About what to do when everything goes right... about what to do when you have no idea where to go or who can help you... everything we need to know.  :)  Give it a try. :)
