It's about God h...I don't see it that way. It's about God helping us to reach perfection over time. Yeah, in this life we might not get there... but it isn't about the church holding us back. It is about us not being there yet, and needing to learn more. Christ died so that we could keep going even after we fail... he isn't holding us ransom. We can always stop if we want to.
